Walter Christison Obituary

Walter Christison of Plainview, Minnesota passed away on October 14, 2021 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester after several months of battling cancer. Walter was born May 11, 1944 in Plainview to Lester and Laura (Lehtenin).  He was a life-long member of Community Presbyterian Church in Plainview. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1962. He attended the University of Minnesota St. Paul campus studying swine production. He joined the Army’s 407th Civil Affairs Company in Winona where he served for six years.

  On December 11, 1971 je married Donna Kalk. Walt and Donna farmed and raised hogs for forty years on a farm west of Plainview. Walter served his community as Boy Scout Master for five years; was a Jaycee District Director; was Master of the Plainview Masonic Lodge; and a Lions Club member for over twenty-five years. He was also a fifty year member of the Plainview American Legion. Walter served his church as an Elder, a Deacon, and a member of the choir. Walt was an instrument rated private pilot, and he and his wife flew their Cessna 182 to the Bahamas, Mexico, and many places throughout the United States. As part of the Experimental Aircraft Association’s Young Eagle Program, Walt flew over two hundred kids for their first flight in a general aviation airplane.

Walter is survived by his wife, Donna, by his sister Janet (Chuck Issacson), by his brother Ralph (Darlene), two nieces, a brother-in-law, a sister-in-law, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family requests memorials to Community Presbyterian Church in Plainview.

Funeral service is Tuesday, October 19, 11:00 a.m. at Community Presbyterian Church in Plainview with Pastor John Curtiss officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview. Visitation is Monday, 5-7 p.m. at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
