Verna Deloris Herrick

Verna Herrick, 98, died Saturday, August 19, 2023, at her home in rural Rochester.

Verna Deloris Aaby was born December 17, 1924, on the home farm in Rock Dell Township to Martin and Mattie (Hegna) Aaby. She was baptized at home and confirmed at the East St. Olaf Church in Rock Dell. After confirmation she was a substitute Sunday school teacher until she attended the Rochester High School. She worked for a family while going to school, graduating in 1943.  Verna attended the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis. After returning to Rochester, worked for Waters Conley, Premier Insurance, Mayo Clinic and Nelson Tire. On October 27, 1945, she married Donald Herrick. They farmed in Eyota and returned to the Plainview farm where they had two children. She was active in the Quincy Ramblers 4-H Club. Verna enjoyed farming and gardening. She had been a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview since 1950.

She is survived by sons Steven (Julie) Herrick of St. Charles and Danny (Dawn) Herrick of Plainview. Grandchildren, Tyler (Megan) and Cody Herrick, Bradley Swancutt and Jessica Schneider (Dain Griebenow). Great grandchildren, Kailey, Kara, Elijah, Brevon, Bryson, Tucker and Brecken.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Glenn (Bertha) and Clifford, sisters, Lorine (Obert) Grovdahl, Elvira (Ellert) Wilson and Ordelia (Art) Coley.

Funeral service will be Friday, August 25, 2023, 10:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview with Pastor Phil Augustine officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Dover. Visitation is Thursday, 5-7 p.m. at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview and one hour prior to the service at the church,
