Tammie Jean Zabel, 65, of Plainview, passed away on October 11, 2023, after a long illness.
Tammie Jean Moore was born on December 26, 1957, in Rochester, to Ronald Moore and Zada (Goranson) Moore. She graduated with honors from Elgin-Millville high school in 1976.
On April 15, 1978, Tammie married Timothy Zabel at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview. Together they dairy farmed and raised a family south of Plainview.
Tammie’s family likes to joke that she was “strong-willed” but that is probably an understatement. She was an excellent cook and loved making meals for big family gatherings. She made state fair-caliber pies. She was an expert cake decorator. Tammie loved music; classic rock and classic country were her favorites. She was a huge Minnesota Twins fan and kept cheering for the Vikings even when it was painful. She was firmly a dog person. She enjoyed trips to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to ride ORV trails in the fall, and long road trips out west. Tammie loved Christmas and turned her home into a holiday wonderland every season. But most of all, she adored her five grandchildren.
Tammie is survived by her husband Tim, her daughter Megan (Dan) Holmes of Eau Claire, WI, her son Matthew (Emily) Zabel of Plainview, MN, her grandchildren Ruby, Heston, Dottie, Marni and Raymond, her parents Ronald (Nada) Moore and Zada Peterson, her brother Lyle Moore, her sisters Deanna Vang, Julene Moore (Joe Daley) and Monica Moore, her sisters-in-law Beverly Feine and Sheila Zabel, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother Leonard Moore, her brother-in-law Douglas Feine, her sister-in-law Rebecca Monson, her brother-in-law Randolph Zabel and her father and mother-in-law Marvin and Lucille Zabel.
Tammie’s family is grateful to the staff at Green Prairie Rehabilitation and Mayo Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to Tammie and her family.
The funeral service is Monday, October 16, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with Pastor Krista Henning-Ferkin officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview. Visitation is Sunday, 4-7 p.m. at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
