Sharon LaVon Mankin, age 75, died at her home in Plainview, surrounded by her family.
Sharon LaVon Hissam was born in Owatonna, MN on November 30, 1948, the daughter of Leonard and Ruth (Karlstad) Hissam. She graduated from Dover-Eyota High School. As a young girl, she worked with her father at the bar in Eyota. In 1980, she was united in marriage to Robert Harrison Mankin at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview. Bob passed away on August 26, 2010. She worked at the library in Plainview and was a secretary at Mayo Clinic and Social Services. She loved gardening and flowers. She dedicated Thursdays to playing Bridge at the Community Center in Plainview with her friends. She enjoyed cross stitching and made everyone a Christmas stocking. She also made blankets for those she loved.
Sharon is lovingly survived by her daughter Christine Feenstra of Plainview, her stepson Marc (Sharon) Mankin of Stafford, VA, grandsons: Ben Weidendorf and Travis Feenstra, both of Plainview and one step-grandson Keith Mankin of Seattle, WA. She is further survived by one sister-in-law Leslie Hissam of Rochester and former son-in-law Wayne Feenstra of Plainview.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob, one daughter in infancy Heidi Jean Harju and one brother Alan Hissam.
A celebration of Sharon’s life will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview. Pastor J. Philipp Augustine will officiate.
A gathering of friends and family will be held at the church from 10-11:00 a.m.
Schad and Zabel Funeral Home of Plainview is assisting the family with arrangements.
