Orrin Gilbertson Obituary

Orrin Gene Gilbertson, 84, passed away in Plainview, MN on March 17, 2023.  He was born on September 20, 1938 in Lanesboro, MN to Alvin and Golda (Guttormson) Gilbertson.

He attended the Lodahl Country School in Lanesboro, and graduated from Lanesboro High School in 1956.  He graduated from Mankato Commercial College with a degree in accounting.  He was employed as a bookkeeper in Rochester, MN.

Orrin also served in the United States Army. After being stationed in Germany, he served in the Army Reserves.  He was honorably discharged in 1967 and returned to farm with his father and brother.

On August 14, 1965, Orrin and Marlene Welti were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview.  They farmed northwest of Plainview, while raising their three sons.  In 1992, Orrin and Marlene moved off the farm to Plainview.  While Orrin still enjoyed spending time at the farm, he also worked at a company in Rochester for many years.

Orrin enjoyed bowling in his earlier years, but his real pleasure was watching his sons and then grandchildren at their sporting events and school activities, where he did not miss many.

Survivors include his wife Marlene; sons, Gregory (Becky) of Plainview, Douglas of Elgin, and Kurt (Shellie) of Zumbrota; grandchildren, Philip (Brianna), Katie, Nathan, Spencer, Luke, Kayla, Cole, Caden, Jesse, Shannon, and David; great-grandchild, Myla Mae; sister, Mary Ann (Herbert) Wurst; sister-in-law, Lois Gilbertson; as well as nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, and his brother Maynard.

Visitation will be on Monday, March 20th, from 4-7 pm at Schad & Zabel in Plainview and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church.  Funeral services will be on Tuesday, March 21st, at 11:00 am at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview.  Burial in Greenwood Cemetery to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested for Immanuel Lutheran Church Stained Glass Window Fund.
