Omar Neumann, 91, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Green Prairie Rehabilitation Center in Plainview.
Omar Walter Neumann was born on September 23, 1930, to Walter and Louise (Timm) Neumann. He was both baptized on October 12, 1930 and confirmed on April 2, 1944 by Rev. Theo Schoewe at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview, MN. His Confirmation verse is Psalms 145:18 – 19. He attended District 113 country school for a few years, attended and graduated from Immanuel Lutheran School on June 1, 1944, and then graduated from Plainview High School on May 27, 1948.
On September 1, 1957 Omar married Lois Schroeder at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Riceville, IA by Lois’s dad, Reverend Walter Schroeder. Omar and Lois farmed East of Plainview for many years until 1980. In1981 he joined Aid Association for Lutherans (now Thrivent) and retired in 1993. Along with farming and selling insurance, Omar enjoyed his antique hobby/business from the mid-70s to 2017. If he wasn’t working on a piece of furniture you would find him at an auction or flea market.
His pride and joy are his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.
Omar served on many organizations, including the Whitewater Township board for a number of years, Greenwood Prairie Burial Association for 45 years, and served on many boards at Immanuel Lutheran Church and School.
Omar is survived by his wife Lois of 64 years, Gregory (Donna) Neumann of Plainview, Peggy (Larry) Labrensz of Marshfield, WI, Marjorie Neumann of Elgin, Benjamin (Kristin) Neumann of Elgin, and Shelly (David) Speedling of Kellogg. Ten grandchildren; Deborah (Brian) Janssen, Melissa (Mark) Baus, Matthew (Alicia) Neumann, Corey Labrensz, Angela (Brad) Pralle, Brenda Labrensz, Shauna (Adam) Binner, Valerie (Jerrod) Wood, Chaise Neumann, Jeffrey Speedling (fiancé Ashley Braun), and fifteen great-grandchildren; Cora, Elouisa, Feya, Gunner, Maisy, Bryndle, Micah, Conner, Haley, Carrie, Zechariah, Evelyn, Ashton, Lakelynn and Jerhett. He is also survived by his sister Bernice Schumacher of Loveland, CO, sister-in-law Millie Eichelberger of Longmont, CO, and many nieces and nephews. Omar was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Louise Neumann, grandson David Neumann, and his sister Ruth Lamprecht.
Funeral service is Wednesday, June 8, 2022, 10:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview with Pastor Phil Augustine officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery on Hoosier Ridge. Visitation is Wednesday, 9:00 a.m. till the time of the service at the church.
