Lois Neumann Obituary

Lois L. Neumann was born on October 2, 1934 to the Rev. Walter and Meta (Hartwig) Schroeder in Lake Creek, MO. She was baptized on October 21, 1934 by her father at Holy Cross Lutheran Church at Lake Creek, MO. In 1945 she moved with her family to Riceville, IA. Lois was confirmed on June 8, 1947 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Riceville, IA by her father.  Her confirmation verse is Revelations 2:10. She graduated from Riceville High School on May 22, 1952. Lois moved to Rochester, MN after high school and worked at Mayo Clinic from 1952 to 1957. 

 

On September 1, 1957 Lois married Omar Neumann at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Riceville, IA by Lois’s dad, Rev. Walter Schroeder. Omar and Lois farmed East of Plainview for many years until moving to Elgin in 1985. At an early age Lois began playing the piano, then at the age of 10, she began playing the pump organ for church services working along side her father. Lois also helped out on a several occasions playing the organ for Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview, MN and Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin, MN. From 1979 to 2015 Lois played the old pump organ at the small country church, Zion Lutheran Church on Hoosier Ridge, for the annual December 23rd Christmas Service.

 

Lois enjoyed her kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, gardening, traveling, sewing, woodworking with using her scroll saw, refinishing furniture and their antique hobby/business.

 

Lois is survived by her children; Gregory (Donna) Neumann of Plainview, Peggy (Larry) Labrensz of Marshfield, WI, Marjorie Neumann of Elgin, Benjamin (Kristin) Neumann of Elgin, and Shelly (David) Speedling of Kellogg.  Ten grandchildren; Deborah (Brian) Janssen, Melissa (Mark) Baus, Matthew (Alicia) Neumann, Corey Labrensz, Angela (Brad) Pralle, Brenda Labrensz, Shauna (Adam) Binner, Valerie (Jerrod) Wood, Chaise Neumann, Jeffrey Speedling (fiancé Ashley Braun), and fifteen great-grandchildren; Cora, Elouisa, Feya, Gunner, Maisy, Bryndle, Micah, Conner, Haley, Carrie, Zechariah, Evelyn, Ashton, Lakelynn, and Jerhett.   She is also survived by her sister Millie Eichelberger of Longmont, CO, sister-in-law Bernice Schumacher of Loveland, CO, and many nieces and nephews. Lois was preceded in death by her husband Omar, parents Rev. Walter and Meta (Hartwig) Schroeder, grandson David Neumann, brothers Eldor and Armin, and sisters Ruth Lubbert and Helen Toomey.

 

Funeral service is Saturday, July 23, 2022, 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview with Pastor Phil Augustine officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Hoosier Ridge. Visitation is Saturday, 9:30 a.m. till the time of the service at the church.
