Elaine Stoning

Elaine Margaret Stoning, 94, died Thursday, May 12, 2022 at Green Prairie Rehabilitation Center in Plainview.

Elaine was born June 29, 1927 in the Whitewater Valley, Winona County to Edwin and Hildegarde (Gradel) Kieffer. She attended Whitewater Valley, Elba and St. Charles schools. On July 19th, 1945, she married Mort Stoning in Decorah, Iowa. They lived on a farm southeast of Plainview and then eventually moved into Plainview. Elaine worked as a Nursing Assistant for 14 years at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Plainview. She was a member of St. Joachim’s Catholic Church. Elaine enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, Bingo and spending time with her family.

Her husband Mort died November 28, 2009.

She is survived by her children; Gary (Julie) Stoning of Plainview, Renee (Rick) Childs of Rochester and Connie (Disney) Rampersad of Rochester; six grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; one sister, Jeanette Kautz of Hammond and one brother, LeRoy “Shum” (Judy) Kieffer of St. Charles.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two daughters, Sandra and Carol Ann; one son, Mark; one granddaughter, Amy; four brothers, Wayne, David, Marvin and Edward Kieffer; and three sisters, Irene, Kathleen and Janice.

Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, May 17, 2022, 11:00 a.m. at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Plainview with Father Tom Melvin officiating. Burial will follow at St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery in Elba. Visitation is Monday, 5-7 p.m. at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
