Benjamin Eugene Marshman
July 17, 1932 – February 19, 2013
Benjamin Eugene Marshman, 80, of Plainview died peacefully at his home surrounded by
family on February 19, 2013.
Ben was born July 17, 1932 at his home in Plainview Township. His parents were Herbert and
Edna (Duerrwaechter) Marshman. He attended the rural Woodland School located in
Plainview Township and graduated from Plainview High School in 1950. In 1952, Ben and
Irene McGrath were united in marriage. Together they raised 6 children and Ben and Irene
were the 3rd generation to farm the Marshman Family farm located in Plainview Township,
Wabasha County. Ben retired from farming at age 62 to pursue other interests including
fishing and traveling. Ben enjoyed working for McNeilius delivering trucks.
Ben and Irene have been lifelong members of St Joachim’s Catholic Church. Ben was involved
in The Knights of Columbus and Plainview Lion’s club. He was a member of the Plainview
School Board and a member of the Elba Coop Creamery Board of Directors. Ben enjoyed his
family, farm life and friends. He was on bowling teams, played softball, and also enjoyed
snowmobiling and boating with his family. Ben loved to fish. His favorite fishing spot was in
Canada. Ben and Irene loved to travel. Their trips took them to Australia, Hawaii, Costa Rica,
Mexico, Ireland, UK, Canada and many US locations.
Ben is survived by his wife, Irene, and 6 children. LouAnn Marshman (Neil Frank) of
Maplewood MN; Michael (Carol) Marshman and Alan Marshman of Plainview MN, Jon
Marshman of Elba MN, Keith (Patty) Marshman of Plainview MN, and Laurie (Rich) Bartz of
Rochester MN. He has been blessed with 15 grandchildren; Michaela, Joy, Ellie, Jacob, Lucas,
Jeff, Jessie, Dan, Kara, Claire, Whitney, Ashly, Samantha, Megan, and Greg, and 26 great
grandchildren; Morgan, Jacob, Shelby, Madelyn, Lukas, Blake, Gavin, Matthew, Melayna,
Jackson, Autumn, Eva, Aiden, Presley, Charlotte, Maura, Paige, Zachary, Nolan, Nash, Owen,
Mason, Lawson, Olivia, Bradyn, and Brooklyn.
Ben is survived by a brother, Robert Marshman of Plainview MN. Ben was preceded in death
by his parents and Uncle Roy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, February 26, 11 am at St. Joachim’s Catholic
Church in Plainview with Father William Becker officiating. Burial will be at the St. Joachim’s
Catholic Cemetery. The visitation is Monday, 4-8 pm at the Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in
Plainview and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
