Barbara Smith Obituary

Barbara J. Smith 87, of Eyota, MN passed away peacefully on March 25, 2021 at
Country Cottage Senior Living outside of Plainview, MN surrounded by her
loving family. Barb was born September 5, 1933 to Lloyd and Laura (Fordham)
Stoddard in Austin, MN and graduated from Rochester High School in 1951. On
June 17, 1951 she married Lloyd Smith in Rochester. They farmed north of
Eyota until 1999 when they moved to Eyota. Barb was a city girl who became a
devoted farm wife and mother to their 4 children. Even though farming was a
fulltime job for Barb, she found time to enjoy other interests in her life. Barb
served on the Eyota Volunteer Ambulance crew, she was on a bowling league in
Rochester, and owned and operated The Corner Rummage Barn for several
years. Barb’s hobbies included doing jigsaw puzzles, reading, playing any kind of
game, and enjoying the penny slots with her good friends Darlene and Carol
Lee. She loved having the family together, especially at the holidays, which
always included big bowls of popcorn and much love and laughter. Barb loved
her church and the hugs she received every Sunday morning. Barb enjoyed
watching and supporting her children and grandchildren in all of their sporting
activities and interests. Barb is survived by her four children, Greg and Debbie
of Rochester, Kevin and Mary of Eyota, Cindy and John of Rochester, and Allen
and Rachel of Elgin. Seven grandchildren; Sean, Jay
&  Dani Mae Smith, and
Arielle Eitzen- Smith, Shelley Shea and Corey Smith, and Trent Nelsen.
Fourteen great grandchildren; Norah, Lucy, and Connor Shea, Ezra, Eden, and
Poet
Kramer Smith, Ella and Jackson Smith, Violet, Isaac & Eve Smith, Ethan,
Reid, and Colin Nelsen, and her nephew Maurice Daigneau and niece Marcia
Daigneau VonWald. She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd in 2002,
her parents Lloyd and Laura Stoddard, and her sister JoAnn Daigneau. The
love of family that Lloyd and Barb shared will live on through their children,
grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Our deepest gratitude to Jamie Ratz
and her staff at Country Cottage for their dedicated and loving care Mom
received during her stay there. Also a special thank you to Season’s Hospice for
the kind and tender care they gave to Mom and the family. The funeral service is
Wednesday, March 31, 2021, 1:00 pm at Plainview Church of Christ with Pastor
Bob Blanshan & Chuck Coggins officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery,
Viola. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. In
lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Country Cottage, Season’s
Hospice, or Plainview Church of Christ.  Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in
Plainview is assisting the family with arrangements. Schadandzabelfuneralhomes.
