                Robert Duane Barta, Sr., 89, of Plainview, MN passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2023, peacefully at home of natural causes.

                Robert was born March 7, 1934, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Edward and Mabel (Vaughn) Barta. He attended a rural Grade School, before his family moved to a farm in Conrath, WI. He graduated High School in Tony, WI, where he excelled in baseball, basketball, and went to State for Track High Hurdles. After graduating in 1952, he served in the Wisconsin National Guard from 1953 to 1959 and was honorably discharged. He married Gladys Froelich in 1954. The young couple had 2 sons, Robert Jr. and Scott, before Gladys passed away in 1958. Robert married Mary Holman two years later, and while living in Eau Claire, their 3rd son, Mark, was born. Robert was a successful salesman for Roberts Foods.

                In 1965, the family moved to Byron, MN and eventually bought a farm east of Byron where they remodeled, raised horses, baled hay, and loved their Maple Hills Farm.

                Robert was a hard-working man who enjoyed life. He was a member of the Byron Snowmobiling Club, the Pine Island Saddle Club, and a Life-time member of the Byron Sportsman’s Club. He enjoyed horseback riding, fishing, hunting, golfing, and the outdoors. He was a skilled oil painter and built beautiful wood furniture. Bob and Mary wintered in southern Texas for 17 years and enjoyed their many friends.

                Robert is survived by his wife Mary, 1 sister, Kathy (Wayne) and 3 sons; Robert Jr. (Ruth), Scott (Shari), and Mark (Kathy);  6 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.

                He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Gladys; and his brother Larry (Barbara).

                Memorial services for Robert will be 2:00 pm on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Peace United Methodist Church, rural Elgin, with Pastor Abigail Ozanne officiating, Visitation is Wednesday, one hour prior to the service at the church.
