Patrick Melvin

Patrick Dale Melvin 90 of Plainview MN passed away Friday September 15, 2023, at Season’s Hospice in Rochester, Mn.

Patrick was born August 10, 1933, in Rochester Minnesota, to Harry and Grace (McGrath) Melvin. He lived on his farm north of Plainview his entire life. He attended Plainview Schools where he was active in sports and later enjoyed talking about his football playing days in High School. He dairy farmed much of his life.

On November 8, 1958, he married Joyce Mary Klein in Rochester, Mn. He was a longtime member of St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Plainview and was a minister of communion, a reader, and assisted with upkeep of the Cemetery.

Pat loved visits with his children and grandchildren. He so enjoyed telling stories of his childhood on the farm and liked to rhyme and tell jokes. When his wife was alive, he loved traveling with her to see their children in Texas and Indiana. He was a hardworking dairy farmer.  Patrick was a member and Chair of the Plainview School Board and a member and Chair of the ASCS Board for Wabasha County.

Survivors include three sons, Paul of Austin, Texas, Terry (Johnnie) of Dripping Springs, Texas, and Tim of North Branch; three daughters, Cindy (Dan) Wendt of Grand meadow, Mary (Scott) Pries of Plainview, and Kay (Victor) Perrotta of Lake Elmo; 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Grace Melvin, his wife, Joyce and his three brothers: Earl, Duane, and Everett Melvin.

Funeral Mass is Wednesday, September 27, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Plainview with Msgr. Tom Melvin officiating. A burial will follow at St. Joachim’s Cemetery in Plainview.  The visitation is Tuesday, September 26, 5-7p.m. at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview and one hour prior to the service at the church on the 27th.
