LaVerne Boyd

    LaVerne William Boyd, 82, of Plainview MN passed away Sunday September 10th, 2023, peacefully at his home surrounded by his family.

    Laverne was born March 12, 1941, in Plainview MN to Russell and Eleanora (McGrath) Boyd. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1959. From there he attended barber school in Minneapolis, MN. He opened Boyd’s Barber Shop in 1964 where he continued to cut hair until he retired in the spring of 2021.  He married Dorothy Sylvester in 1962 in Plainview where they resided and raised their family.

    LaVerne was very active member of the community. He served on the city council for multiple terms and then went on to serve as mayor. He was also a member of the Jaycee’s, Knights of Columbus, and the Lion’s Club. Most recently he served as chairman of the sewer board for 30 years. In his spare time you could find him on the golf course or bowling alley. He also loved to throw horse shoes and play cards.

     LaVerne was a faith-filled loving family man. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy. His son, Chuck (Nicki) Boyd of St Paul, daughter Theresa (Donny)Schreiber of Plainview, and daughter Elizabeth (Richard) Pavlick of Spirit Lake IA. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Three brothers, Donald, Bob and Russell. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Bill and Ed, and sister Ethel.

     Funeral Mass is Wednesday September 13th, 11:00 a.m. at St Joachim Catholic Church in Plainview. Burial will follow at St Joachim Cemetery. The visitation is Wednesday, 9:00 a.m. till the time of the service at the church.
