Elaine Kroening-Bierbaum Obituary

Elaine Vera Kroening-Bierbaum, 97, of Plainview, MN peacefully passed away at Green Prairie Rehabilitation Center on February 16th, 2023, with loved ones by her side.

Elaine was born on October 4th of 1925 to Charles and Isabelle (Graner) Kruger in Wabasha County of southeastern Minnesota. She grew up helping on the family farm and attending country school outside Plainview. Elaine graduated from Plainview High School in 1943. Having a total of 14 years of schooling she went on to work at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Elaine and Maurice Kroening, also of Plainview, were married in 1946. They briefly lived in Kansas City Missouri where they had their first child, a son, Terry. They settled back in Plainview where they bought and ran the ice cream shop. Elaine and Maurie had 2 more sons, Gregory and Kevin and 2 daughters Kris and Jodi. She later sold toys and was the activity director at Hilcrest Nursing Home for many years.

Elaine enjoyed traveling, golf, card parties, the cabin and drinking a brandy 7 while watching the Twins. She was a member of St. Joachim’s Catholic Church and served as a Catholic Daughter for many years. She cherished time with family. She will be missed dearly by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her loving husband Maurie passed away in 2007.

Elaine married Clarence Bierbaum in 2008. They, together with their children and their spouses, enjoyed traveling to Punta Cana. Clarence passed away in 2016.

Elaine is proceeded in death by her husband Maurice Kroening, her son Kevin Kroening, her son in law Dick Klassen, and her husband Clarence Bierbaum. She is survived by her son Terry (Mary) of Winona, son Gregory Kroening of Elgin, daughter Kris Klassen of Lake City, daughter Jodi (Chris) Williams, of Chicago, and 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Funeral mass will be Saturday, April 29, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at St. Joachim's Catholic Church in Plainview with Msgr. Thomas Melvin officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joachim' s Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, one hour prior to the service at the church.
